Apartment & Condo Moving

Walk-ups, mid-rises, and condos in Five Points South, Lakeview, and downtown — we know the elevators, the dollies, and the COI paperwork.

Apartment and condo moves around Birmingham have their own rhythm: a service elevator booked for a two-hour window, a leasing office that wants a certificate of insurance on file, a third-floor walk-up off 20th Street with a stairwell built for one person and a hand truck. Earls Moving Company runs these constantly, and our crew works fast without banging up the building.

From the Lakeview lofts to the high-rises downtown and the garden units out toward Southside, we’ve moved a lot of Birmingham renters and owners.

The first thing we sort out is access, because that’s what drives the time and the price on an apartment job. If your building requires a certificate of insurance, our office manager Brenda Sims gets it issued to your property manager ahead of move day. If there’s a freight elevator with a reserved window, we plan the load so we hit it. And if it’s a walk-up, we bring enough hands so nobody’s hauling a dresser up four flights solo.

Apartment moves run on our standard local rates: $115 an hour for a two-mover crew and truck, or $155 an hour for three movers when there are stairs or a tight elevator slot to beat. A studio or one-bedroom usually wraps in a few hours.

Typical apartment and condo pricing

Here’s where most Birmingham apartment moves land. Stairs, elevator windows, and a long carry from the truck to the door can nudge the time up.

Unit Typical flat price
Studio $300 – $480
1-bedroom $510 – $840
2-bedroom condo $880 – $1,420

Need a certificate of insurance for your building? We provide it at no extra cost — just send us the leasing office’s requirements when you book. A $89 deposit holds your slot.

What’s not included

A standard apartment move covers the muscle and the truck. A few things are handled separately:

  • Packing your boxes — we offer full-pack from $340 or partial-pack for just the kitchen and fragiles.
  • Elevator reservation fees or building deposits charged by your property.
  • Disposal of furniture you’re leaving behind.
  • Specialty items like a piano, from $319.

Built for Birmingham buildings

Apartment and condo moving here isn’t one-size-fits-all, and the building usually decides how the day goes:

  • The older Southside and Five Points South walk-ups have narrow, turning stairwells that need careful lifts and the right hand trucks.
  • Lakeview and downtown lofts often have one freight elevator shared by the whole building, so timing and a reserved window matter.
  • The garden-style complexes out toward Vestavia and Hoover usually mean a longer carry across the lot from the truck to your door.

Our crew leads, Dewayne Tucker and Jermaine Hill, work these buildings week in and week out, and they pre-walk the harder ones so move day doesn’t turn into a guessing game. Tell us the building, the floor, and whether there’s an elevator or stairs, and we’ll line up the right size crew and a flat price before move day.

What’s already in your price

Everything our Birmingham crew rolls up with on move day — nothing added later, nothing sprung on you.

  • Crew sized to your building — extra hands for walk-ups and tight elevator windows
  • Certificate of insurance issued to your property manager at no charge
  • Pads, dollies, and floor protection to keep the building deposit safe
  • $115/hr two-mover or $155/hr three-mover rate, truck and tools included
  • Disassembly and reassembly of beds and standard furniture
  • Same Earls crew load to unload — no day-labor or subcontractors

The questions we get most

My building needs a certificate of insurance before I can move — can you handle that?
Yes, and it’s no extra charge. Send us your leasing office’s requirements when you book and Brenda in our office gets the COI issued to your property manager ahead of move day. A lot of the Lakeview and downtown buildings ask for one, so it’s routine for us.
How do you handle a third- or fourth-floor walk-up with no elevator?
We staff up. For a walk-up we bring enough movers that nobody’s wrestling heavy furniture up the stairs alone, which keeps it fast and safe. We scope the stairwell and doorway widths during the estimate so the truck shows up with the right crew and equipment.
Can you work around my building’s reserved freight-elevator time slot?
Absolutely. Tell us your reserved window and we plan the load order so we move the most during it. If the elevator’s shared or slow, we’ll add a mover to make sure we beat the clock and don’t tie up the building’s lift longer than booked.
Roughly what does a one-bedroom apartment move cost here?
Most one-bedroom moves in Birmingham land between $510 and $840 as a flat price, depending on stairs, the carry to the truck, and how much you’ve got. A studio runs $300 to $480. We confirm a flat number after a quick walkthrough so there’s no meter anxiety on move day.
